Play therapy supports children to communicate, express their emotions and work through their struggles in the best way they know how... play!
Play therapy can help children to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behaviour, problem solve and build relationships.
Engaging with toys and games provides a safe distance from their problems and allows expression of thoughts and feelings appropriate to their development.
Here at Indigo Play Therapy, we support children between 3 and 12 years of age.
Play therapy can support children who:
-
Have experienced trauma.
-
Struggle with emotional regulation.
-
Display challenging behaviours.
-
Are diagnosed with Autism, ADHD or other neurodevelopmental disorders.
-
Have recently experienced significant changes including parent separation or moving to a new place.
Play therapy is so much more than that.
Children have not yet developed the skills, understanding or vocabulary to describe their thoughts and emotions the way adults do. A child's best method of communication and exploring these feelings is PLAY!
A play therapist is trained to interact and respond to children's emotions and behaviours in an evidence-based way, as well as creating an environment that is nurturing, safe and fun!
